Leadership as a Journey:

The 5 Levels of Leadership:

  • Level 1: Position: Leadership based on title. People follow because they have to.
  • Level 2: Permission: Leadership based on relationships. People follow because they want to.
  • Level 3: Production: Leadership based on results. People follow because of what the leader has done for the organization.
  • Level 4: People Development: Leadership based on developing others. People follow because of what the leader has done for them personally.
  • Level 5: Pinnacle: The highest level, where leaders develop other leaders who can themselves create leaders. This level is about who the leader is and what they represent.

Ten Insights on Leadership:

  • Leadership levels build upon each other.
  • Leadership is dynamic and can vary with different team members.
  • Moving up requires growth; moving down can happen quickly.
  • Each level requires more time and effort than the previous one.
  • You cannot climb the leadership levels alone.
